The shock absorber is a core component of the automotive suspension system, belonging to the category of vibration damping devices. Its main function is to attenuate vibrations caused by road impacts, improving ride comfort and handling safety. It converts mechanical energy into heat energy through hydraulic or pneumatic damping, reducing resistance during the suspension's compression stroke to buffer impacts and increasing resistance during the extension stroke to suppress rebound, ensuring wheel grip.
This device commonly employs a two-way action cylindrical structure, with main types including hydraulic, pneumatic, and adjustable-resistance types. Pneumatic types use a floating piston to isolate hydraulic fluid from high-pressure nitrogen, while adjustable-resistance types work in conjunction with air suspension to dynamically adjust the damping orifice diameter. Regular checks for oil leaks, abnormal noises, and other faults are necessary, and the operating condition should be evaluated through temperature monitoring or pressure testing.
